💭 A Phrase That Echoed in My Heart

On an ordinary day, as I was going about my daily routine, a phrase began to echo repeatedly within my heart:

“The sword of the Lord, and of Gideon.”

At that moment, I did not even know where these words were found in the Bible.

🔄 Yet they kept returning to my mind again and again.

📖 As I searched the Scriptures, I discovered that they came from the story of Gideon, and that discovery became the spark that ignited this article.

✨ Perhaps what the Lord taught me through Gideon may also encourage you who are reading this today.

🌾 The Nature of Gideon

When the Angel of the Lord first appeared to Gideon, he was not leading an army or performing mighty exploits.

🌾 He was simply threshing wheat in a winepress, hiding it from the Midianites.

“The angel of the Lord came and sat down under the oak in Ophrah… where his son Gideon was threshing wheat in a winepress to keep it from the Midianites.”
— Judges 6:11

🏆 Gideon was not seeking fame.

👨‍👩‍👧 He was faithfully doing what he could to protect his family from the enemy.

❤️ He carried a sense of responsibility and concern for those around him.

😟 Yet beneath that responsibility lay fear.

He lacked the confidence to challenge the Midianites and deliver Israel.

He saw himself as weak and insignificant.

🤲 And that is precisely where God met him.

👀 Gideon’s Perspective vs. God’s Perspective

Gideon honestly confessed:

“But Lord, how can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family.”
— Judges 6:15

From Gideon’s point of view, he was:

❌ Weak.

❌ Insignificant.

❌ Unqualified.

But heaven saw something entirely different.

“The Lord is with you, mighty warrior.”
— Judges 6:12

Notice the contrast:

😟 Gideon saw weakness.

⚔️ God saw a warrior.

📉 Gideon saw limitations.

👑 God saw potential.

😨 Gideon saw himself according to his fears.

✨ God saw him according to His calling.

🙋 My Own Struggles

Many times, I have felt the same way.

“Lord, I am not capable enough. I don’t have the talents that others possess.”

Yet, time and again, the Lord has chosen weak vessels like me and opened doors that I could never have imagined.

🚪 His grace has carried me farther than my abilities ever could.

Perhaps you also feel inadequate.

Perhaps you think you have nothing to offer.

❤️ Do not lose hope.

✨ The Lord Jesus specializes in using ordinary people to accomplish extraordinary purposes.

🔥 The Burden in Gideon’s Heart

When the Lord appeared to Gideon, his first response was not excitement about himself.

👥 It was concern for his people.

“If the Lord is with us, why has all this happened to us? Where are all His wonders that our ancestors told us about?”
— Judges 6:13

Notice what filled Gideon’s heart.

❌ “Why am I suffering?”

✅ “Why are my people suffering?”

🇮🇱 He carried a burden for Israel.

💔 His heart ached for the condition of his nation.

❤️ And I believe this burden greatly mattered to God.

🙏 A Personal Experience

I remember one occasion when I was praying in the house of one of my relatives.

🙏 As I prayed, the presence of the Lord suddenly filled the room.

❤️ I sensed the loving and compassionate presence of Jesus in a very real way.

🔥 His presence rested upon me heavily.

🎵 For nearly three days my heart overflowed with worship.

🎶 Songs that I had not sung for years came to my lips effortlessly.

It remains one of the precious spiritual experiences the Lord has graciously allowed me to have.

Yet when I compare my experience with Gideon’s, something stands out.

👥 Gideon first spoke about his people.

💔 His concern was not personal comfort but national deliverance.

His burden for others poured out immediately from his heart.

🔎 What Is God Looking For Today?

I believe the Lord is still searching for people like Gideon.

❌ Not necessarily the strongest.

❌ Not necessarily the most talented.

❌ Not necessarily the most confident.

But:

❤️ People who carry burdens.

🤝 People who care.

🙏 People who pray for their families.

👨‍👩‍👧 People who intercede for their relatives.

🌍 People who weep for their nation.

🕊️ People who are concerned about perishing souls.

💪 Take Courage

Perhaps you think you are weak.

😔 Perhaps you feel unnoticed.

Perhaps you wonder whether God can ever use someone like you.

Take courage.

The God who called a fearful young man hiding in a winepress and called him:

“Mighty warrior!”

is still calling people today.

❤️ He is looking for hearts that care.

🙏 He is looking for men and women who will stand in the gap.

👤 He may be looking for you.

🎺 The Cry of Victory

And perhaps, like Gideon, one day the cry of victory will rise from your life:

“The sword of the Lord, and of Gideon!”

⚔️ For when God joins Himself to a weak but willing vessel,

✨ impossible victories become possible.
