📖 “Knowing, brethren beloved, your election of God. For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake.” — 1 Thessalonians 1:4-5

❤️ Greetings, dear brothers and sisters in Christ.

When we read the letters of the Apostle Paul, we often see a mixture of great encouragement and firm correction. Yet, the letters to the Thessalonians follow a very different pattern. Compared to the churches in Corinth, Galatia, Rome, or Colossae, the Thessalonian church received very little condemnation. Paul addresses them right from the beginning as the “chosen” or “elected” by God.

But what made the Thessalonians so different? As I began to meditate deeply on this question, the Holy Spirit revealed the formula right there in verse 5. The Gospel did not reach them merely through human speech—it came with Power, the Holy Ghost, and Much Assurance.

If we want to see true spiritual fruit in our lives, our ministries, and our families, we need to look at these four elements:

🗣️ 1. Not in Word Only

Words are powerful weapons. They can build up or destroy a life, a community, or even a nation. Throughout history, many leaders—both good and bad—have risen to power simply because of their eloquent speech and persuasive words.

But when Paul brought the Gospel to the Thessalonians, he did not rely on clever narratives or worldly wisdom. Paul himself admitted that he was not a polished speaker trying to attract people with his eloquence:

“I came to you in weakness with great fear and trembling. My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power…” (1 Corinthians 2:3-4)

If it wasn’t Paul’s brilliant speaking skills that transformed the Thessalonians into God’s chosen people, what was it? The answer lies in the next three elements.

⚡ 2. In Power (The Anointing)

When simple words are mixed with the power of God, they will always bear fruit. This power is the anointing of the Lord. Today, we often hear secular speakers sharing worldly wisdom—sometimes even mentioning Christ in seminars—but it rarely changes a person’s spiritual life. It might bring temporary worldly improvement, but it doesn’t transform the soul.

Before I came to the Lord, I went through a season of deep depression during my teenage years. I attended several seminars and listened to many speakers, but nothing could deliver me. Then, one day, I met a simple man of God who spent most of his time in prayer. He didn’t give a grand speech; he just offered a short 15-minute counseling session and prayed for me sincerely. In that exact moment, I felt the joy of the Lord fill my heart! From that day forward, I was delivered from depression and began progressing in my spiritual life.

One word from Christ, filled with His power, can open blind eyes and heal broken hearts. We must wait at the feet of Jesus to receive this power.

🕊️ 3. In the Holy Ghost

Our words must be directed and controlled by the Holy Spirit.

A few years ago, I was involved in children’s ministry. I made it a habit to pray for hours before serving, asking for the Holy Spirit’s guidance. One day, I was talking to the children about the sufferings of Christ on the cross. Suddenly, I had an unusual experience—I began explaining the crucifixion as if I had been standing right there, watching it happen.

Normally, children are easily distracted, but that day, everyone was captivated. Even a tiny 3-year-old sat perfectly still, listening deeply. A 7-year-old girl, who usually questioned everything, discussed it with her friends later, amazed by how vividly the sufferings of the Lord were described. Even today, I cannot fully recall the exact words I used! It was completely led by the Holy Spirit. When our words are directed by the Spirit, they cut straight to the heart.

🛡️ 4. In Much Assurance

Finally, you must genuinely believe what you are saying.

Several years ago, I spoke with a theologian who led a large congregation. During our conversation, he admitted to me that he believed the parting of the Red Sea was just an “encouraging story.” He had probably preached about the Red Sea many times to his church, but deep inside, he didn’t actually believe it happened. If we preach or share the Gospel without true conviction, it will not produce fruit. We must have total assurance in the truth of God’s Word.

🌱 The Fruit of the Chosen

Whether you are doing ministry, working as a professional, or simply speaking to your family and friends—if your words are filled with Power, directed by the Holy Spirit, and spoken with Assurance, they will absolutely bear fruit. This is how the Lord uses us to help turn our fellow believers, our families, and our nations into His chosen people.
