📖 When the Prosperity of the Wicked Troubled Me, God Showed Me Their End

“Surely You place them on slippery ground; You cast them down to ruin.” — Psalm 73:18

❓ Difficult Questions Every Believer Faces

There are moments in the life of every believer when difficult questions arise in the heart.

❓ Why do people who reject God seem to prosper?

❓ Why do those who act with pride and arrogance appear to succeed while sincere believers struggle with trials, disappointments, and unanswered prayers?

Have you ever looked at the world around you and quietly wondered:

“Lord, am I serving You in vain?”

If so, you are not alone.

Even the psalmist Asaph wrestled with these very questions.

⚖️ When Prosperity Becomes a Stumbling Block

Recently, I witnessed powerful and influential people speaking about the suffering of ordinary people with very little compassion.

Their confidence, influence, and apparent success troubled my heart.

A question began to rise within me:

Why do the wicked prosper while those who seek God often suffer?

As I carried this burden before the Lord, He gently brought to my mind Psalm 73.

The psalm begins with honesty:

“But as for me, my feet had almost slipped; I had nearly lost my foothold. For I envied the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.” — Psalm 73:2–3

Asaph saw the wicked prospering.

💰 They seemed wealthy.

🏛️ They seemed successful.

😌 They appeared free from the troubles that burden ordinary people.

Meanwhile, God’s people often carried heavy burdens.

😔 The contrast troubled him deeply.

For a moment, his faith began to shake.

⛪ The Turning Point: Entering God’s Presence

Everything changed when Asaph entered the presence of God.

“Till I entered the sanctuary of God; then I understood their final destiny.” — Psalm 73:17

The answer did not come through politics.

🏛️ It did not come through economics.

🧠 It did not come through human wisdom.

✨ The answer came in the presence of God.

The circumstances had not changed.

The wicked were still prosperous.

The world still looked unfair.

But Asaph’s perspective changed because he began to see life through eternity rather than through the present moment.

👁️ God showed him not where the wicked stood today, but where their path would ultimately lead.

⚠️ The End of the Wicked

The Lord impressed one verse strongly upon my heart:

“Surely You place them on slippery ground; You cast them down to ruin.” — Psalm 73:18

From a human perspective, the wicked may appear to stand on solid foundations.

💰 Their wealth looks secure.

👑 Their power appears permanent.

🌍 Their influence seems untouchable.

But God sees what human eyes cannot see.

🧊 Their prosperity rests upon slippery ground.

What appears strong today can disappear tomorrow.

⌛ Power fades.

🍂 Wealth disappears.

🌫️ Fame vanishes.

Human glory is temporary.

🏔️ Only what is built upon God remains forever.

🤝 The Hope of God’s Children

Then the Lord turned my attention to another beautiful promise:

“Yet I am always with You; You hold me by my right hand. You guide me with Your counsel, and afterward You will take me into glory.” — Psalm 73:23–24

What a wonderful contrast.

💰 The wicked may have wealth.

❤️ But God’s children have His presence.

👑 The wicked may possess temporary power.

🤲 But believers are held by the hand of the Almighty.

🏠 The wicked may enjoy comfort for a season.

✨ But the children of God are being prepared for eternal glory.

What greater treasure could there be?

🌿 When You Feel Discouraged

If you ever find yourself discouraged by the success of those who oppose God, remember these truths:

✅ Wealth is temporary.

✅ Success without God does not last forever.

✅ God’s perspective is greater than our present understanding.

✅ The Lord holds the hand of His children.

✅ Eternity changes how we view today’s circumstances.

Do not judge your life by today’s appearance.

📜 God sees the end from the beginning.

🛤️ The Two Paths

The wicked may seem to be climbing a mountain, but many are standing on slippery ground.

🤲 God’s children may appear to walk through valleys, but they walk with the One who holds their right hand.

⚠️ One path ends in ruin.

✨ The other ends in glory.

✝️ Choose the path that ends with Christ.

🙏 Prayer

Lord Jesus,

When I am troubled by the prosperity of the wicked, help me to see life through Your eyes.

Keep my heart free from envy and bitterness.

Teach me to trust Your wisdom when I do not understand what I see around me.

Thank You for holding my right hand and guiding me with Your counsel.

Help me to remain faithful until the day You bring me safely into glory.
